The novel, which landed on the longlist for the 2017 Giller Prize and won the Writers’ Trust Prize for Fiction, among other accolades, touches on masculinity, family, race, and identity as it shares the perspective of two brothers, the sons of Trinidadian immigrants, coming of age in a Scarborough housing complex in 1991. The London Public Library recently unveiled their selection for this year’s city-wide book club - Brother by Canadian author David Chariandy. A critically acclaimed novel that explores the hardships of a black family in Scarborough will provide Londoners an opportunity to reflect on community during One Book One London. ![]()
